Introduction:

Using your textbook and other credible resources, research language development in children between the ages of three and six.  Focus your research on the major language rules, how children learn written and oral language, the relationship between thought and language, how play supports academic achievement and language development, and how adults can support written and oral language development.

Assignment:

Design a newsletter to distribute to parents in “your preschool classroom” that provides information, tips, and resources for language development. 

Include the following when creating your newsletter:

  1. Explain the major language rules.
  2. Explain how children learn written and oral language.
  3. Explain the relationship between language and thought.
  4. How can play support preschool children’s academic achievement and language development?
  5. Provide a minimum of five detailed ways parents can support their child’s written and oral language development on their own.
  6. Provide a minimum of five detailed resources for supporting children’s written and oral language development provided by the community, local government, and/or businesses. 
  7. Include a minimum of three color photos in your newsletter.
