ECE 315 Ashford University Learning a Second Language Discussion

Our learning environments are filled with children who come from diverse backgrounds. When we get to know the children we are supporting and their families, we strengthen the connection between home and school, which leads to increased engagement and achievement. In this discussion, you will learn about supporting second language learners.

To prepare for this discussion,

In your 250 to 300 word initial post, due by Day 3 (Thursday),

Guided Response Due by Day 7 (Monday): After reading several posts, respond to at least three classmates and address the question they still have about learning a second language. You do not necessarily need to answer them but may want to provide information related to what you have learned (50 to 100 words each).

Final Response Due by Day 7 (Monday): Compose a final response to your original post, replying to any comments or questions others have given to you. Summarize your overall thoughts for the week, including information you learned from reading peer postings. Remember that continuously engaging with peers and the instructor will further the conversation and provide opportunities to develop relationships within the classroom community (100 to 200 words).

Note: You will be asked to review the information you present in this discussion forum, as well as the ideas shared by your classmates, to use for the Final Presentation in Week 5, where you will plan ways to support English language learners in the classroom. You may want to look ahead to the Final Presentation directions located in Week 5 to understand how you will adapt this discussion to fit those requirements the final week of class.
