J?????????????????OURNAL PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS OVERVIEW It is recommended that you write a journal entry each week related to the journal portfolio prompt provided below. In Module 4: Week 4 Each of these assignments are built from four journal prompts. The goal of this assignment is for you to complete these as you are reflecting on course material and not to save them for Module 4: Week 4 INSTRUCTIONS Journal prompts require that students read, reflect on, and apply course material, theological reflection, and/or spiritual disciplines. Students will not submit these journals weekly. Instead, you will submit the journals for modules 1-4 in Journal Portfolio: Christian Postures Assignment in Module 4: Week 4 . The portfolio is simply a collection of these journal entries into a submitted Word document. The minimum word count is 350 words per journal entry. There is no maximum word count.
Use research as needed; yet, most will not require research beyond Scripture or course materials. Module Journal Topic Prompt Journal Portfolio: Christian Postures Assignment Module 1: Week 1 Fear of God For Journal Portfolio Entry (1), read at least five substantial passages from Scripture that deal with the fear of God. After reading these, explain, based on these passages, what the fear of God looks like in action. Make sure to reference your five passages throughout your reflections. No sources beyond Scripture should be used. 350 words respond Module 2: Week 2 Pride and Humility For Journal Portfolio Entry (2), you have two options for your prompt. Choose one option below: Option 1: • After consulting your course textbooks and watching the course videos, explain the ways you see pride manifested in your life. How do you think you need to respond to these manifestations of pride? [Pride is insid?????????????????ious, and
you must root it out of your life—this often takes surgery of the heart and it always takes submission of the will!] • 350 words respond Option 2: • Consider analogies you can imagine explaining the depth, scope, and insidiousness of pride. Describe pride in its many facets using this analogy. 350 words respond Module 3: Week 3 Imagining Blind Spots For Journal Portfolio Entry (3), write in the vein of C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters. Here, use your imagination for this journal entry. Some students might not, at first, enjoy this prompt, but I believe if you give it a fair shot you will see the value. Write to utilize your imagination and some creative writing to do the following: “Imagine that in one year from now you had a moral-sinful failure in your life and ministry. Trace that sin back to its root in your life today.” As we will see later in this course, this discipline of tracing our fruit to root is a valuable practice both in reflection and in
