I’m working on a business question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Critical Analysis Assignments : There will be three required application exercises, the fourth is optional. These are ALWAYS due on Friday EVENINGS before 11:59pm and are based on an article posted on Canvas. Students are asked to THINK about the point of the article, not the specifics of what a company may have done.
The assignment requires students understand the “LESSON” of the assigned article (what are the strategic implications of the article) and then seek to APPLY these lessons to ANOTHER, DIFFERENT business. For instance, challenges Tesla faces in marketing their product (in light of poor delivery performance) could be applied to a VR enabled game system.
A successful analysis consists of a brief thesis (recommendation) statement and rationale that supports this thesis statement. Note that a critical analysis recognizes any potential negative aspects of the recommendation too.
For each application, students must apply THREE marketing concepts from the chapter(s) associated with the week the article is due. Each concept must be boldedand integrated into your discussion.
Additionally, students must use at least three SUPPLEMENTARY references to provide more support of analysis and conclusions. The references are independent sources that are article/industry specific that provides you with data as evidence. The SOURCE ARTICLE SHOULD ALWAYS BE CITED.
A student example of a successful mini-application is posted on Canvas.
Each submission is to be 1 page in length and presented in MEMO format (think “email” brief, but the assignment is uploaded in Canvas); students must identify a challenge or an opportunity and discuss a viable options for an organization based on analysis of the “case”.PLEASE NOTE – this is NOT a book report about WHAT the ARTICLE/CASE/STORY was about but rather the key are marketing strategy take-a-ways which another organization can use.
The Memo format assure that submissions are short, concise and insightful.
Students should use terms, vocabulary, frameworks, and concepts from the course in their analysis; these concepts (MINIMUM OF THREE PER ASSIGNMENT) should be BOLDED in the body of the memo and not merely THROWN in but rather correctly and effectively synthesized into the discussion. Check the week’s assigned readings for key vocabulary. Students should consider WHY this Case/Article was chosen for the day’s topical discussion.
A practice Critical Analysis assignment will be done in class so that students understand the process and elements.
Students are expected to do external/additional research on the industry or the company as a context for the analysis. A bibliography listing THREE OTHER SOURCES beyond the focal reading is required – remember to properly site the source article.
Recommendations without a sound, fact-based foundation will be rejected and penalized.
