1-Within a police department there are different levels of supervision. Training officers oversee new recruits and sergeants oversee the new recruits and the training officers as well. Then, we have upper management that deals with administration and disciplinary procedures. In essence, it is a top down system established to make sure everyone involved is doing their job properly.

Effective managers are responsible for every employee by leading my example. Supervisors must be role models and show leadership skills by effectively communicating with other employees. In addition, they must demonstrate integrity by possessing a positive and adjustable attitude depending on the situation (Willis, 2011). The objective is to oversee employees involve, but at the same time response towards the need of the employees is imperative when dealing with issues that may arise.

2-Like any type of management and department, there are different levels of administration. To start, the police chief is the highest-ranking officer in the police department. They are typically responsible for the planning, administration, and operation of the police department (Police Department Chain of Command, 2020). To be this level of command, the police chief needs to adjust and understand their role as the chief, and to understand how to continue to stay respectful, responsible, selfless, hold their officers accountable. The police deputy chief is the second in command and reports directly to the police chief. The police deputy chief is also assigned as the commanding officer of major organizational components such as Geographic Operations Bureaus, Detective Bureaus, Human Resources Bureau or the Internal Affairs Group (Police Department Chain of Command, 2020). Adapting to the change in attituded can be something that might be a hit or miss for the department also. Being the second in command, they would need to make sure they are still doing their job as an officer, along with reporting back to the chief for anything necessary. Just like the police chief, they need to be able to tell the chief is something suspicious is going on between officers, or they witness or even hear about something they know is wrong.

3-Police departments serve thousands of people throughout the world. They must be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Updated equipment allows officers to do their job effectively and in a timely manner (More, Vito and Walsh, 2012). However, there is more than just equipment to achieve a police department intended goal. Management and communication are another moving part that must be effective and robust in dealing with employees. Managers must show integrity, in which it will reciprocate in time with other employees by keeping eye contact and positive body language coupled with professionalism that may be paramount for police officers.

Listen to your employees as a button up approach, this may help deal with specific problems by finding solutions to improve the department and the issue at hand. Keeping well rounded channels of communication is imperative when communicating between employees and supervisors. Communication in the workplace is super important for companies and police agencies to work effectively and productive. Managers must lead by example by guiding, strengthing, and inspiring those around you.
