Our materials this week describe a number of purposes for and problems with the education system in the U.S. What are the purposes of the education system in our society? Also, we know that social institutions do not exist in isolation from each other – what other social institutions are most directly related to the education system in the U.S.? How does this impact both the effectiveness of the education system overall AND our individual experiences (such as our potential for success or failure) in the education system? What might we do to address these issues in our country?

What have you learned this week about the institution of work and the ways workplaces have changed in recent decades? Also, how have advances in technology and automation changed the contemporary workplace at large? What are the benefits and drawbacks to these technological advancements?
