The topic for this week’s discussion board is to find (and share) an example of real self vs ideal self-advertising. Find a 30-second advertisement on Youtube and include the link commercial along with insights and analysis regarding the inferred target market and their shared real self-identities and ideal self-identities. How does the product/service “close the gap”?

example:

REAL SELF: I’m a less-than cool teenage dude; a 3-4-or-5 on a 10-point scale in the looks category. Puberty’s a bitch! I have zits everywhere, patches of hair on my face… and I stink.

IDEAL SELF: Me with a girlfriend!

AXE PROMOTION: Psssst. Spray some of this on and smokin’ hot babes will literally be throwing themselves at you!
