An huge example of government intervention in the economy within the past 12 months would have to be the sturdy price regulation of goods that included toilet paper. At the beginning of the pandemic, the scarcity of toilet paper was among one of the resources that caused people to freak out. Although toilet papers price did not experience an overall price markup in general (until recently), scarcity created an issue among smaller/poor communities. Smaller business/mom and pop shops in areas where larger supermarkets had been completely sold out of tp, would illegally mark up prices taking advantage of their local/loyal consumers. This would not only be unethical and illegal but also slander other small businesses around the area further discouraging consumers from shopping locally.

While dealing with smaller business, I lean towards believing in a free market. I believe supporting local communities in order to help people in your area prosper and make living wages. I also believe that a lot of the time, time is not being valued as a factor of a businesses output and that can also be frustrating to the producer. However, what I don’t support is when smaller businesses take advantage of the community when they are clearly in distress. Smaller businesses who contributed to the tp crisis of 2020 should have to pay consequences (some did get fined or shut down). The whole point of having a community is to be able to rely on one another and while I understand people in crisis “do what they have to do” to survive, they created mass panic while giving tp companies a reason to increase their price of goods legally. Now we all have to suffer the consequences to simply use the restroom.

The Turkish government regulates medical devices and price regulation.

The regulation that the government changed would benefit those who are suffering from diseases and planning to get medical treatment. Besides, the people who do not have a health insurance policy due to their economic problems. More visiting the hospital and medical center will increase and more people probably to visit them. Retailers can get benefits who is own medical devices because the price will increase. My uncle has kidney failure, and he is able to afford to buy drugs when he needed. He has to go to medical care three days a week. There are some parties that could get hurt by the intervention, such as manufacturers of the medical devices because their profit will drop as they earned per unit. The middlemen get hurt by the intervention because they were trying to sell the product to medical care and hospitals that means they will get a smaller cut in the price. These could be unintended consequences of this intervention. For example, the health of the country’s infrastructure will befall, and that would make another problem for the country. I believe health is one of the most things that humans have own, so we should take care of it. Government has a responsibility to provide affordable healthcare services to the public, and they should control the price. It is a good step for the government that was regulating the price. There are pros and cons to the regulation that government has, but we can not allow people to die for it.
