Discussion Introduction/Overview

Topic: Reflection

The practicum experience helps to increase knowledge and
skills learned in previous courses. It creates an atmosphere to apply
evidence-based concepts of disease management to patient care plans. Sharing of
practicum experiences with classmates will increase knowledge of most common
illnesses treated in different practicum settings. Continue to ask questions of
your preceptor and examine rationales for prioritizing diagnoses and prescribing
medications.

Please share practicum experiences with classmates by
addressing the following information:

Type of practicum setting: Primary Care for ages 18 and up

Average number of patients seen by you and the preceptor on
a daily basis: my preceptor
has 13-17 patients on her schedule a day and I generally see a minimum of 8 of
those

Most common diagnosis treated: UTI, Wellness Visits

Available resources (low cost meds, social services,
community resources, etc.)
in office no, but referrals can be made

Most interesting patient presentation: 45 yr male African American
uncontrolled HTN who has had every combination of HTN medications and still
depending on clonidine 3 -4 times a day to lower his bp after his regular blood
pressure medication has been taken. Patient refuses to see cardiologist and
want our office to manage his HTN.We have
taken him off all HTN medications and starting over to see what regimen works

Comfort level with history-taking, physical exam, medical
diagnosing, Management plans including prescribing medications and health
education.I would say I m 75% comfortable, I do second guess
myself at times but not in front of the patient, only in private to I discuss
what I am not sure on.
