Design a model of a building with HVAC system

design the model of the given Building with respect to HVAC (heating, ventillation, air conditioning) system requirements,

  • MATLAB
This design project will include the development of a fully working MATLAB analysis / simulation

    Project Deliverables

    1. Detailed design of your model.
    2. How you translated the real world into mathematical form.
    3. Working MATLAB analysis / simulation.
    4. Detailed documentation showing:

    A. Physical characteristic of the building:

    • U-values,thermal capacity, internal heat transfer, infiltration rate etc.
    • Assumed weather condition: temperature, solar radiation, wind speed etc.
    • Performance attributes of the HVAC system: system efficiency, time constant, control etc
    • The various user requirements: temperature levels required, opening of windows etc
    • The various heat gains: arising from use of electrical appliances, inhabitants, and behaviour

    B. Each of the assumptions that have been made.C, The geographical layout is very important. You must take into account:

    • the location of trees or nearby structures,
    • ventillation exhausts or other external elements!
    • vertical positioning (valley? top of a hill?)

Project PhilosophyThe major idea is to be able to translate a physical situation into a mathematical form, and model it using standard engineering software tools; such as Matlab and others can be used, but are not essential.
What is important is that we can follow your thinking processes, and identify your engineering approach to modeling.

BuildingThe analysis is to be carried out on the building shown below.Satellite PhotoThe front of the building is as below:Front of building

    Gathering Data

    Dimensions

Measure the building as accurately as you can using simple manual methods. (Accuracy to +/- 0.25 meter)Ignore where the building steps in or out. Assume a flat wall.Use trigonometry to get the heights of the building, including where the building materials drastically change.

    Building Materials

Inspect the construction of the building.Example of a wall might be

    • Colourbond cladding
    • Insulation – standard
    • Gyprock internal wall.
    Validation

Use industry standard calculators, and tables to to validate your assumptions and calculations. The should form part of your report. (Note – they are NOT the report)
