Early dance has been discovered on ancient cave paintings, vases and statues that indicate that dance was one of the first human expressions in art and existed prior to any human languages. Dance served humans through religion, birth, courtships, marriages, battles, to connect with ancestors and death. Some have suggested that animals dance with expressive emotions through dance movement not only for courtship, but for pure joy. Dance has been described as “rhythmic movement of the feet or body with or without music. Others claim that unless dance has a symbolic meaning or emotion then it is not dance.
