I’m working on a humanities question and need guidance to help me study.

Sex In Your Later Years

If the thought of two nude people over 60 years old, tangled up in the sheets doesn’t make you cringe, chances are you have reached a level of maturity when sex after a certain age seems like a pretty good idea. People ages 65 and above are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population that are engaging in sexual activities regularly.. Researchers find that sexual daydreaming, sex drive, and sexual activity tend to decline with age, whereas negative sexual attitudes tend to increase. However, 95% of older people report that they enjoy sex. It is far from natural to stop wanting or having sex. Rather, our lives depend on us keeping our sexual energy and connection intact.

Five (5) myths about sex and aging:

1. His equipment doesn’t work.

2. Neither does hers.

3. You can’t fire up an old engine.

4. An aging body isn’t sexy.

5. Older people shouldn’t have sex.

Despite the fact that many older adults continue to enjoy sex as long as they can, there are problems that arise. Both men and women experience decreases in hormones, which effect physical ability and desire to perform.

Assignment:

Search and read an academic publication, journal, or magazine article (other than the textbook for this course) about sexual functioning as we age and answer the following questions, (a reference is required adhering to the designated reference format I provided you with):

  • Read about the pros, cons, and benefits of sex over the age of 50 then write specifically how this information will be beneficial to you when you are 50+ years of age, (if you are currently in this age range, discuss how the information is beneficial to you now).
  • Additionally, what you can do now proactively as a couple that will help keep the spark alive as you age, witness, and experience your body change.
  • Examples of topics:
    • Condom use
    • Age (can I still enjoy sex at 70 or 80)
    • STI’s
