I’m working on a art question and need guidance to help me learn.
The first paragraph should be a brief summary of the main argument of the reading.
It should answer such questions as:
- What is the author’s argument?
- Which kinds of historical contexts does the author emphasize?
- What are the implications from the author’s argument about how we should think of particular kinds of art or visual formations?
- Why is it important to think about it this way?
(You do not need to answer all of these questions, but you should use them as guidelines.)
The body paragraphs should outline the claims and evidence that the author uses to support the argument.
They should answer such questions as:
- How does the author prove the argument?
- What examples does the author use?
- How do those examples help us to understand the main thesis of the text?
The final paragraph should be your analysis of the reading.
It should answer such questions as:
- What do you think is particularly important or significant about the reading?
- What do the author/authors leave out?
- What are some of their basic assumptions (upon which they build their argument)?
