Discover something by mining a significant data set
Have some original idea that uses something we learned in class
(classification, clustering, sentiment analysis, etc.)
Or maybe improve an algorithm or define a problem and solve it
Output should be something that can be presented at a poster
session like the STEM symposium
Or it could possibly become a published paper

What is a project proposal?
A brief (1 page) document that answers the following:
– Statement of the problem
– How you plan on solving it
– What data will you use and how will you get it
– What algorithms will you use
– How will you measure success
– What do you expect to present at the end of the term

Why should people care about the problem
Your approach to solving the problem and why you
chose this design
Details of your process
What is original about your research
Conclusions/Lessons Learned/Implications
Again, you probably won’t actually produce a poster, but
instead create a dozen powerpoints and present those
