Please go back into the discussion boards of the class – and collect quotes from you or your classmates that summarize this course.

Please CHOSE 2 things from Each Week that you have gathered – they have to be from the class or interaction with other students on the discussion board.

WEEK 1

WHAT DO THINK THE MIND IS ASSIGNMENT

1- I do think that the mind is how the brain thinks and adjust
the world and there are two types of thinking fixed mind and open
mind. It can be changed by time and experience and it can shows by the
first video the baby can’t take the keys until he saw it, but in the
second video the same kid can understand what in side the box.

HISTORY ASSIGNMENT

2- it’s very important to understand the history of Psychology
because people then can have knowledge of what was happening in each
time frame society for example I did not know that in 1892 the APA was
only white male people, and first African American woman to complete a
PhD in psychology in 1933.

WEEK 2

Sleep and Consciousness assignment

1- Drugs and Consciousness: Drugs can have a bad effects on
people especially when they become indicted. when people use drugs or
alcohol they can not function as a sober people. It will effect there
brain in the long run. Some drugs often cause us to lose
consciousness, so we cannot perceive our surroundings even if we are
awake. Others believe that drugs stimulate the brain twice as much as
music.

2- Nostalgia – connection of emotion Many things can be nostalgic
for us, like seeing an old game we played as a child, an old song, or
even a favorite food we enjoyed eating with a past loved one. In the
TedTalk they explained how our emotions change when we hear a song we
liked from the past. Barrett stated that “Music can have a direct
impact on our emotions with measurable impacts in our brain”. He also
goes on to explain that it is very beneficial to our brain and well
being.

WEEK 3

WHAT IS REAL? DISCUSSION

1- Why do we need to use Science when studying Psychology?
People are frequently unaware of the causes of their own behaviors.
Psychologists use the scientific method to collect, analyze, and
interpret evidence. Employing the scientific method allows the
scientist to collect empirical data objectively, which adds to the
accumulation of scientific knowledge. They apply psychological science
to understand how we make decisions and perceive our world. Health
psychologists use the science of psychology to promote health, prevent
illness, and improve health care.

HOW CAN WE CHOOSE? (Elia)

2- When someone is faced with a lot of punishment and very little
reward – what keeps them moving?

According to the video, a growth mindset builds grit and people who
have a growth mindset are less likely to give up when they fail in
life. The willingness to want to achieve a goal and persevere is what
keeps someone moving forward. Of course one has to be willing to want
to make a change because if they don’t put in the effort then they
will remain as they did and always keep on making the same mistake.
The opposite can be said for someone who does put in the effort. They
will reap the rewards of their labor and handwork and it will only
make them want to continue as they did to get there.

Do we all have the ability to have Grit?

We do all have the ability to have Grit but we have to be willing to
accept the situation and know we can persevere. We can face obstacles
sometimes but we can overcome them if we really try to and ask for
help if we need. We just need to be motivated in some way so we can
achieve our goals and not have low self esteem because then it might
feel impossible to do something. Just as the video says we should
teach our kids to be grittier. I feel like it is true because everyone
should always fight for what they want and try not to give up to
achieve their goals.

WEEK 4

Contingency and Memory (Adam)

1- Tell the class how you feel LEARNING and the concept of
Contingency applies?

The videos all talk about how human beings learn through experiences
of what works and what not, how we learn and teach things based on how
we see the world, how we remember and much more. We can also see that
the contingencies in these videos revolve around the idea that as
humans learn or experience something new they learn something else
they didn’t know. What really caught my attention was the video on
“Feats of memory anyone can do” by Joshua Foer. A good argument is
made about how technology is a reason why we do not really process
deeply anymore. We externalize our memories because we do not feel the
need to remember as much anymore which has made us forget how to
remember. He says that people used to invest in their memories and in
laboriously furnishing their minds. Foer talks about a competition in
which men and women memorized a lot of things in just a matter of
minutes. It is surprising how those people can remember so much in so
little. It all begins with practice and the knowledge to know how to
remember and memorize as well to understand your own memories. We
probably won’t remember word for word on something we learn but we all
have visual and spatial memory that can help us picture things to
remember them in a way that is meaningful to us. Foer says that great
memories are learned and that we remember when we pay attention, when
we are deeply engaged and when we take a piece of information and
experience and figure out why it is meaningful to us. So basically if
we want to have a memorable life we must remember to remember. We can
see contingency in the process of learning to remember too because it
can help you understand your brain better.

Memory system (adam)

2- How did you remember those things?

I believe the way I remembered that is because the knowledge of how to
do it was stored in my brain, cerebellum to be exact, so now I can do
it unconsciously.

WEEK 5

Discussion 1

1- Kids learn to think by building up experiences which resulted
in different outcomes for them. If they learn that reaching their arms
out gets them a toy, they will then think in the future that they want
a toy so they reach their arms out. Babies also learn to think through
imitating other people, mainly their parents or siblings. If they
learn that simply putting their arms out does not get them a toy, they
will try and learn language skills to get what they want more often.
This can be done by simply observing other people or through parents
coaching their child through words until the baby can know what word
it is for what they want.

assignment 2

2- Maslow’s hierarchy of needs looks at the different levels of
motives with their own needs and importance to a person’s life. At the
top, self-actualization needs are the needs that make an individual
feel completely satisfied, thus achieving inner fulfillment. Things
like talent identification and recognition can achieve this
fulfillment. Below are esteem motives that look at a person’s
self-accomplishments that create confidence for the particular
individual. An ideal example is a person regularly topping the class
in academic performance. That urge to be on top of the social needs of
a person involves family time, relation with relatives and friends,
and the intimacy aspect. Below the hierarchy lies the security of an
individual that determines their safety and the employment assets,
which creates chances and more sources of income. Finally, the
examples of the physiological need can be food which entails the three
basic daily meals. For shelter, one can have a house to accommodate
him and conduct indoor activities without disturbance.

WEEK6

Discussion 1

1- WHAT ARE THE CURRENT TRENDS – WHY ARE THEY POPULAR?

One of the most recent challenges that are going around is on TikTok
and it is named “devious lick” where you go around and what they call
“finesse” steal school any school-installed stuff. A couple of stuff
they are stealing is soap dispensers, paper towels, toilets, sinks,
and much more stuff. This has caused schools to shut down their
bathrooms and leave one bathroom opened to monitor and make sure no
one is stealing any school materials. According to Granite Hills High
School, there have been multiple people stealing and tagging up the
school’s bathrooms. They have had to two close 2/3 bathrooms because
the students have stolen a sink in one of them and all the mirrors in
the rest. This devious lick challenge just ends in the bathrooms,
people also steal fire extinguishers, clocks, projectors, exit signs,
and much more stuff. This has become a fun/funny trend to the students
who go into the bathroom and see stuff removed and or the people
stealing the stuff find it funny. Schools have now shut down and will
place charges against the student or students who get caught stealing
school material.

DARKSIDE ASSIGNMENT 2

2- Racism can be defined as Bias, discernment, or hostility
absorbed at a person or people since they belong to an explicit racial
or traditional collection, frequently, one that is a pressure or
disregarded. While on the other hand, discrimination is defined as
Making unwarranted distinctions among individuals based on the
clusters, classes, or supplementary classes to which they fit or are
thought to belong. Discernment can happen based on race, phase,
belief, or voluptuous alignment, amid other influences. This paper
will discuss the causes of racism and discrimination and what we can
do regarding it.

WEEK 7

Mental disorder assignment

1- Sangu Delle first rediscovered his identity in his disorder
when his best friend was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and those
around him went on isolating him and calling him mad. Inspired by his
friend’s plight, he was able to realize the importance of mental
health and went on to help found a mental health special interest
alumni group that worked to take care of those suffering in silence
under stigmatization by society (Delle, 2021).

Therapy assignment

2- In my own work with a therapist, I have discovered that the
initial trepidation about going to therapy is one of the hardest parts
of the entire therapeutic process. The stereotypical stigma associated
with therapy and the understandable discomfort of sharing your secrets
a stranger is more than enough to cause a bit of anxiety. However,
once I had taken the time to find a therapist I felt I could trust, I
realized that therapy was a safe place to process my emotions and
experiences. My experience in therapy has led me to learning new
skills for managing my anxiety, loneliness, thought processes.

WEEK 8

Healthy Psychology assignment

What does it mean for you to Flourish?

1- For me, flourishing goes beyond mere happiness or wellbeing;
it includes a wide range of positive psychological variables and
provides a more comprehensive view of what it means to be well and
happy. For example, I feel that seeing my ideal life or the greatest
possible version of myself in the future enhances my happiness, life
satisfaction, and sanguinity, which are key components of thriving.
Creating good relationships is one of the most important things I do
to thrive. This is because social interaction is sometimes seen as the
most significant predictor of our health and pleasure. Social
connection, for example, is one of the most powerful predictors of
mortality (Spielman, Jenkins, & Lovett, 2020). That is why it is
critical to invest in our relationships. Therefore, for me,
flourishing means having a sense of the good life.

Fear fire flood assignment

2- That we consider fear a path of imagination and turn it into
stories, thus making us able to imagine the future so that we can deal
with it in a good way. Imagination is a mental simulation of events
and things that are not seen or seen at the same moment. When we see
the world, we construct a mental version of what we see based on
incoming sensory information or past experiences. These internal data
and representations may become a memory or may be used to imagine
imaginary or future scenarios.
