All of the essays offer a perspective about life lessons and adjusting to “normal” after the Covid Pandemic:
Tim Alberta’s “Elvis Reenters the Building” references a tribute performance to Elvis in the Stuart Opera House and associates it to survival.
Amanda Mull’s ” Burn All the Leggings” references fashion and relates it to history of social trauma and connection to the physical body.
Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of not Giving a Fuck” offers a perspective about life balance by prioritizing what is important in an uncertain world.

A few ideas to get you started:
- Alberta: Elvis and the Stuart Theatre, persistence to survive
- Mull: Leggings (inside vs outside clothes), “fashion is a conversation; if there are no other people to talk to, what’s the point?”, one’s concept of the body, fashion is about desire
- Manson: urban slang of “giving a fuck” meaning: overcoming adversity, creating a life balance, cutting trivial worries, focusing on what is most important
Also, does the author argue that the new normal will be about nostalgia for a return to a happy place, solidifying ones new identity, a guide to coping in a new world, or something else.
