Quality media serves many important roles, including identifying issues to raise the public’s awareness, informing the public and decision makers on how issues will impact stakeholders, share understanding from experts, and promoting transparency and ensuring the public is not exploited by those in power.
The purpose of this assignment is to help you further form an opinion on a relevant, current event related to a topic we covered in class, and critically think about the implications it may have on your community, area of interest, or current perspective.
Choose a recent news piece from a reputable media source on a topic related to a topic we have covered in the class, and one that has been in the media. Read through the assignment before choosing a news piece so your piece provides enough breadth to complete the assignment. The news piece can be an article from a newspaper or magazine, podcast from a reputable source, documentary, radio program, etc.
