Prompt: Other than Odysseus himself, who is the most important character in this epic poem?
You can define “important” as the character that the story can’t do without, or the character with the most influence on the others, or perhaps you can make a case for the most interesting character other than Odysseus. You must explain your answer with quotes, explanations and analysis.
You are probably going to struggle to make a case for THE most important character, but you can use subordination, i.e., something like, “Although there are several very important characters other than the hero, without whom the story would make no sense, one stands out as the most fascinating: _____.” ….Fascinating, or sympathetic, or appealing, or intriguing, or the one who seems to mirror Odysseus’s personality, or…..
