Overview:
This week’s chapters describe the characteristics and features of process, workflow, and business process management systems. It explains how business processes can be realized and composed using Web Services. It gives an overview of the Business Process Execution (BPEL) and how processes can be described using BPEL. The concept of Application Service Provider (ASP) is introduced. It followed this discussion on the value drivers, benefits, risks, and challenges of the ASP model. In the latter part of the chapters, the concept of private ASP and its advantages is explored. An overview of grid computing is also presented that describes the grid’s fundamental characteristics, types, and constituent technologies. It presents the grid computing standards, as well as an overview of the Globus grid computing environment.
