Brief instruction:
This week you will prepare a 2000 word response to the questions: How should we ecologically restore an extremely degraded former gas station in a dense urban neighborhood? Why? To what extent? What are the most important design considerations? Ecological considerations? Planning considerations?
The neighborhood is lower income and has moderate environmental assets: a small but accessible woodlot, some open turfed recreational space, no community gardens, generalist species wildlife, no open water. The former gas station site is a rectangle of 50×100 meters (.5 square hectare). It is on a corner, and is surrounded by a daycare centre, a mall parking lot, and two arterial roads.
In addition to the written response, please include an illustration of your ideal outcome, staged over three years with details about activities to be completed each season.
