SCENARIO QUESTIONS

  1. TOPIC: What is your topic? It’s the same general topic area you chose for Assignment #3. It is NOT your Position paper thesis.
  2. PROBLEM: Briefly explain what is the problem within this topic area that you’re going to solve.
  3. WHO HAS THE PROBLEM: This is your reader(s). Typically, this is a group or class of persons; as always in TW, it should not be too general (e.g., “Americans, citizens/nations of the world”); it’s impossible to tailor a solution to an extremely broad audience.
  4. AUDIENCE: Who will solve the problem? It may be the same as who has the problem, or it could be someone else.
  5. AUDIENCE ANALYSIS: Based on who the audience is, what can you say about what they already know about the subject of the writing? E.g., terminology, jargon, background.
  6. DELIVERY: Your delivery mechanism is the place your reader(s) would be most likely to go to find a solution to their problem. Choose 1 of these DM options for this assignment: a) article in a print or online publication; b) web page; or c) internal or external report. A letter is NOT an option for Assignment #4. Please do not waste time writing a letter. NOTE: Delivery mechanism must be a real-world location. You will format your P/S assignment to match the real-world look.
  7. AUTHOR: Who are you, as the author providing the solution? Since you’re offering the solution the reader is going to follow, why are you a credible, someone that your audience would trust? Make up your role (your fake credentials, degrees, and affiliations) so that your authorship carries clout.
  8. SOLUTION: a) List your solution type (see 3 choices); b) briefly list your specific solution(s)
  9. In addition, submit your problem/solution brainstorming mind map. To receive credit, your mind map must include at least 3 groups with different problems in your general topic space.
