Enterprises must consider the consequences of working from home in terms of the risk that grows. Normally risk is only between the server, internal network and end user machine. Remote working adds public internet, local networks and consumer-grade security systems to the mix.
Here are some of the approaches to take to minimize these risks; provide employees with basic security advice, provide VPN access, provision security protection, audit employee passwords, update software, encourage the use of approved cloud services, mandatory backups, avoid hardware plugins like external harddrives and USB sticks, have a contingency plan.
People working from home must be provided with basic security information like what are phishing emails, try to avoid use of public Wi-Fi, ensure home Wi-Fi routers are sufficiently secured, verify the security of the devices they use for work, remind them to create and change strong passwords frequently.
