The Literature Review
Instead of a midterm exam in this course you will write a literature review. The Literature Review is where you take the information that you have gathered from reading the assigned articles and make it into a cohesive few pages that outline the arguments that other scholars have made previously. You do not just discuss one author then the next then the next. The lit review groups ideas together so if author A says that black males are more likely to recidivate than others, and author B agrees with that, you discuss what the authors say and then cite both authors after their agreed findings. If author C agrees with that statement but says only in large cities, then you can say that separately. If authors D and E disagree with that completely, then they would be in their own school of thought where you will discuss what they argue. You will select a topic in Criminal Justice that is of interest to you and you will find 10 journal articles to include in your literature review. You will use JSTOR to locate the 10 peer-reviewed articles.
I have attached an example of a literature review 🙂 Topic MUST be a Criminal Justice topic! Thank you!
