In Chapters 9 & 10, the authors explain the high level forms of corporate strategies particularly emphasizing vertical integration (where the entity owns and controls all the factors of production) and horizontal integration (where much of the resources required in the business are actually owned and controlled by others.) The level of collaboration and the style of planning and management required are quite different and understanding which type of process you will run or wish to run will be critical in your strategic thinking.
