you will create your own musical composition. You may use sampled and remixed sound as well as any other musical skills you already possess. Throughout the course, you’ll work on developing the musical vocabulary and technological skills to complete the assignment. Along with the sound composition, you’ll turn in a meta-analysis: a short, two-paragraph explanation of the choices you made and techniques you used in your composition.
This assignment has two components:
1. A Mini-Musical Composition
30 seconds – 1 minute long (can be longer if you want!)
Some ideas:
- Record sounds around you using a sampling app and turn them into a beat.
- Sample other recordings and mix them into an original composition (but give the originals credit!)
- Write and record your own popular music composition
2. Written portion: A 2-paragraph meta-analysis
What choices did you make in your composition? What did you sample and why? How did you consider the melody, harmony, beat, rhythms, timbres, etc.? What was most difficult about the process? What part of the process did you enjoy most?
