Reflection Letter

The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate to your instructor that you have considered the feedback you have received from others (your instructor, your peers, etc.) and that you have made a strong effort to make these changes to both your literature review and argument section drafts.

You will also need to demonstrate that you understand the difference between editing and revising your papers.

REVISION: Note that revision involves making changes that reflect a new way of thinking about the assignment.  For example, if a reader has mentioned that your sources  seem to be indicating different themes in the research than the ones you originally used to organize your literature review, you would need to revise your literature review with this in mind. If your reader finds that the main focus of your argument comes at the end of your argument section, you would need to revise this section with this in mind. (See chapter 10).

EDITING: Note that editing involves minor changes to the draft: correcting misspellings, correcting punctuation errors, correcting sentence structure, breaking paragraphs, etc.

You will need to discuss on your revised and edited the literature review and argument sections of your paper.

To complete the reflection letter assignment you will need to do the following:

You will write a letter addressed to me. In this letter, you will reflect on the revisions and edits you made to your literature review and argument section. Note that reflection involves more than identifying what you changed in the paper. Reflection involves considering why you made the changes you did and what impact these changes had on your writing. You will need to explain what you changed, why you made these changes, and what effect these changes had on the section overall.  You should use your argumentation skills to make a strong case for the revisions you have made to these sections.

Focus/Organization: Your letter should discuss changes that you made to both section drafts. Your letter should be well-organized, including strong, well-focused, well-developed paragraphs and strong transitions between paragraphs. Your letter should remain focused on the task at hand.

Using Examples: You should uses examples from your literature review and argument sections in discussing the revisions and edits you have made. Remember to develop your paragraphs the same way you would for any other writing assignment. (See Chapter 9).

Analysis: You should demonstrate that you have analyzed the impact these changes have made on your sections overall. How have these changes made your sections stronger, clearer, more organized, etc.?

Argumentation: You should build a strong case for the revisions you have made to your literature review and argument sections.

Conventions: Your letter should be written in letter format, including a salutation and a complimentary closing. Your letter should be conversational, yet professional. Don’t forget that you are writing this for a particular audience. It should feel and read like a letter. Don’t be too formal. Don’t use salutations like “To whom it may concern.” You will also want to avoid texting-speak and other inappropriate gestures: “Yo Teach” or “Hey you” “LOL!”.  Write respectfully, but conversationally.  Remember that you are writing to me.

Your letter should be double spaced, Times New Roman, 12pt. font with 1 inch margins on each side. Your letter should be at least 2 pages in length. Your letter should be no longer than 5 pages.

For this assignment, you will also need to turn in a revised draft of your literature review section and your argument section. You can include these in one document, if you would like. In these revised drafts, you will need to highlight what your changed in these drafts.
