Cornell College John Dees Angelology Religion Discussion Question

Please complete 2 out of the three questions.

Each answer should be around 2 paragraphs (short).

Attached a reading below that might help with the answer.

Please complete 2/3.

1. Compare John Dee’s angelology with those of our earlier readings. How does he develop the ideas from our earlier readings, such as Enoch/Metatron and Adam/Jesus readings? Why? What is his goal, and how does this assist him to achieve it?

2. What is idolatry? How do we recognize it when we see it? How do Jews and Christians distinguish it from “presence” and identify it as such? Discuss examples drawn from each week of the course in order to illustrate your view on the issue.

3. Explain the meanings of the word Bereshit בראשית as articulated in the Zohar. What is this work trying to communicate, and how? How does its view compare to earlier and later views about angels/aspects of divine presence?

Thank You!
