– the Contrast Paper requires that you make a focused argument about the difference between two works of art in their social and historical context. The first paper should be about 1250 words in length, and no less than 1100.
– Contrast Antigone and Lysistrata. Use specific details drawn from both works of art to discuss what you consider the single most important difference between them. Begin with a clear opening statement declaring what the most important difference is, how it is expressed, and why it matters. Then proceed to illustrate this statement with as many specific details as possible.
– You are encouraged to reuse your opening as the introduction to your first paper, while polishing and revising it to make it even more effective. Take into account the criticisms which the instructor and the teaching assistants made regarding your opening, and try to revise it yourself as well.
– the most important thing is simply to demonstrate how well you know both works of art — this is your chance to show how hard you’ve studied! But rather than simply tell me everything you have learned, you must selectively present what you know about both works of art in order to articulate what you consider the most important difference between them. This is involves clearly explaining just what that difference is and how it is expressed, and then explaining why it matters so much. It also means presenting specific details to illustrate this argument
