Considering Inclusivity and Technology

As technology advances it become as more integral part of our everyday lives. You probably don’t give a second thought to unlocking your cellphone with your fingerprint or walking up to an automatic door, and it opening. As engineers and computer scientists develop technologies that rely on interfacing with humans, it is important they consider the diverse populations who will interact with the technologies.

Deliverables:

  • Essay
  • Discussion Board (Must Comment of Two of your Peers’ posts)
  • eCampus Questions

Step 1: Watch the Following Video

Step 2: Complete Discussion Board

While reflecting on current and emerging technologies, consider the challenges and concerns associated with having people of different races, ethnicities, genders, ages, body types, etc. interact with the technology. Whenever humans are interacting with technology there are also ethical concerns.

Now, review the NSPE Code of Ethics. Identify at least two specific elements of the code of ethics that may have been violated (or should have been considered) in the scenario on the video by the Algorithmic Justice League. What are some specific steps you as an engineer should take to ensure you are behaving within the NSPE Code of Ethics?

Post a brief summary (2-3 paragraphs) which addresses the above questions on the “Considering Inclusivity and Technology” discussion board in eCampus. You must also comment on two of your peers’ posts to receive credit.

Step 3: Select articles and read

Step 4: Write and Submit Essay

Step 5: Complete eCampus Questions

* What did you learn from this assignment?

* Think about interacting with other engineering students, especially those who are different from you. How can you apply what you learned to your interactions?
