PART 2:
RESPOND TO 2 RESPONSES :
#1:The statics in California that stood out most for me would be homelessness and I believe this impacted a lot of Americans due to the pandemic of covid-19. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority released the results of the 2020 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, which showed 66,436 people in Los Angeles County experiencing homelessness, Friday. This represents a 12.7% rise from last year’s point-in-time count. The city of Los Angeles saw a 16.1% rise to 41,290.The report captures a picture of homelessness in Los Angeles County as it was in January 2020, the time of this year’s Homeless Count, and before the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic could be felt, measured, or responded to through efforts such as Project Roomkey, rent freezes, and eviction moratoriums. The count results also come as protests across Los Angeles and the nation force attention to the effects of systemic racism on policing and human services, highlighting the alarming result that black people are four times more represented among people experiencing homelessness than in the County population overall, and renewing attention to the recommendations of the report issued by LAHSA’s Ad Hoc Committee on Black People Experiencing Homelessness.
#2: the statistic that stuck out the most to me in the state of Virginia is the larceny arrest rate and the drug abuse rate. In 2019 approximately 345 children ranging from the age of 10-17 was arrest on larceny charges. Throughout the United States 389 was arrested. So that mean only 44 arrested came from the other states. Also in 2019, 230 children ranging from the age of 10-17 was arrested on drug abuse charges. Compared to the Unites States who has a total of 234. The reason why the drug abuse struck a nerve to me because it shows that drug use hit them hard before they even reach their teenage years. In my opinion, the community can help in many ways. I remember at that age, the area i grew up in offered the D.A.R.E program for kids in my age group. It taught us about drug abuse and how it can be our downfall if we decide to do it. The community can help by having a mentor program like Big Brother Big Sister. Showing them that they can have a better path at life other than the streets.
