Compstat (computerized statistics) is a management tool used by many law enforcement agencies. Using this link, select one of the areas in Los Angeles and discuss the statistical information in the Compstat area profile: Document Attached
In your discussion, include the following:
- Which area did you choose? And what time period does the report cover?
- How do the most recent crime and arrest patterns compare with the past?
- For arrests, LAPD reports “Total violent,” “Total Part 1,” and “Total All Arrests.” How do you interpret these numbers? What is the relation between crimes and arrests?
- Based on this report, what do you think your area would focus on? What additional information might be useful to include in the Compstat report?
LAPD also reports on Disciplinary Penalties. Look at a recent Disciplinary Penalties report and describe the way data are presented. Would a statistical summary help make this more useful?
