You do not need a book
You will submit a brief (10 to 12 text pages) formal research paper on an aspect of criminological theory of your choice, researched from professional journals or scholarly books (not other textbooks), and quality Internet sources, going beyond the material given in the textbook, examining the original research (at least one seminal article or book), and other theoretical or research-based articles (found in professional journals and scholarly books; but never in other text books). It is due 27 April. Late papers will be penalized at the rate of 3% for each workday late.
TERM PAPER GUIDANCE – AFTER SELECTING A SUITABLE TOPIC and GAINING Dr. KANIA’s APPROVAL:
Select several relevant articles from library and quality internet sources to supplement the material on your topic in the textbook, which should include at least one original, major “seminal” article on this theory. Summarize this theory or typology from the text and supplemental reading materials. Present a discussion of how this theory or typology has been received and evaluated by our society.
Prepare a summation of over-riding theoretical issues implicit in the preceding discussion, attempting to show how the theory or typology chosen can have broad policy implications. Attach a complete bibliography of all sources used in this paper. It will be unsatisfactory if only Siegel’s Criminology, other textbooks or Power Points are used; ideally you will need no less than three additional library journal, book, or quality internet sources.
