For this week’s discussion forum, you will be composing the rough draft of an essay to submit for peer review. Your essay should be at least 500 words. Using what you learned this week about cause-and-effect writing, compose a cause-and-effect essay in response to one of the writing suggestions below:

  • The effect of a parent, teacher, or friend on your life
  • Why you selected your major
  • The effects of cramming for an examination
  • The effects of peer pressure
  • Why some students cheat
  • The effects of growing up with a personal computer
  • The effects of poverty on an individual
  • Why one college course is more rewarding than another
  • Why many people don’t bother to vote in local elections
  • Why more and more students are taking online classes
  • Remember, this is a draft. It does not have to be perfect. But it should follow APA style guidelines (cover page, 12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, etc.) This is a descriptive essay, so no research is required. You will not need to include a reference page) Submit your paper to the discussion forum for peer review. Additionally, you will need to review two of your peer’s papers. Post your responses to the peer review questions as a reply to your peers’ posted papers.
Step 1 – Rough Draft: In an original post, attach a copy of your Cause-and-Effect Essay Rough Draft and include a brief note to your fellow students that explains the following:
    • What worries/concerns you have about your paper
    • How well you think you have achieved the assignment’s purpose.

Step 2 – Peer Review: (Adapted from a Mike Michaud’s Bedford Bits blog post.) Write a brief response to two students’ essays that answer the following:

    • “Given your understanding of the assignment, what is working about the writer’s first draft? What is good? What do you like? (Point to three specific aspects of his/her draft that are working or ‘good’).”
    • “Given your understanding of the assignment, what in regard to this draft needs work? (Point to three specific aspects of his/her draft that can be improved).”

Use the Cause-and-Effect Essay Assignment Prompt and Directions to determine your understanding of the assignment. Post Step 1 and Step 2 by the deadlines listed on the Assignment Due Date Schedule.
