As we discussed in this week’s lecture, the issue of wealth and poverty is multifaceted. Much of it has to do with opportunity, much with skill, much with luck. There are people who are well off due to inheritance, there are others who are incredibly poor because they had to take care of their family and couldn’t chase their abilities. In your initial post, address at least two of the following questions:
In light of scripture, and Christian theology, what do you think is the Christian response to poverty?
Is it ethical to redistribute wealth?
Is it ethical to take away a person’s ability to make use of their position, because others are not in that position?
Do Christian ethics aim at fairness for all?
Is it ethical to allow 1% of the populace to have as much as they do, while so many struggle to make ends meet?
In your initial post this week, make sure you address how you think Christian Ethics mandates the follower of Christ approach the poor (and the rich). In your response posts, be sure to state your reasoning for either agreeing or disagreeing with your coursemates.
