a) Write a 750 word report on Local Mineral Resources. Answer the following questions in that report.

What mineral resources are extracted in your home-town area? What mining methods are used, and what have been their harmful environmental impacts? How has mining these resources affected the local economy?

E.g. Gold Mining in Nova Scotia or Gypsum Mining in Nova Scotia

b) Write a 750 word report on where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions have occurred during the past 30 years. Consider the vulnerabilities of cities and nuclear power plants in these areas. Also include in your discussion, where in Canada is vulnerable.

or

c) Write a 750 word paper on the Tsunami of December 26 2004 in Sumatra.

Describe the Tsunami, how was it caused (what tectonic plates were involved), characteristics (wave length size and speed?) and damage caused. Why was there such high loss of life. What where some of the lessons learned.
