Chapter 7
Cognitive and Social-Cognitive Aspects of Personality
Answer all 9 Writing Prompts below:
7.1 Writing Prompt – Think about Lewin’s concept of field theory and the concept of Gestalt. What are some ways that field dependence and field independence affect personality?
7.2 Writing Prompt – Piaget, like Freud, focused on stages of child development as a central part of the theories. How did coming from a cognitive point of view rather than a psychosexual one affect how he viewed the way children developed?
7.3 Writing Prompt – Review your responses to Kelly’s Role Rep test. Do you think comparisons give enough information to determine how a person construes reality? What, if anything, do you think was missing from the picture your results show?
7.4 Writing Prompt – Think about the types of intelligence you read about in this section. What part do they play in your overall personality?
7.5 Writing Prompt – Recall what you have learned about conditioning from your studies of Skinner and Watson. Do you think an optimistic outlook is more often a conditioned response to good circumstances or an innate personality trait that predisposes someone to be optimistic? Or does it emerge in some other way?
7.6 Writing Prompt – Rotter and others who followed him were interested in the locus of control. How do you think having an external or internal locus of control would make a difference to a person’s psychological situation as described by Rotter? Does your best friend have an internal or external locus of control?
7.6 Writing Prompt- To what extent should government regulation determine what is in the best interest of children and what children should be permitted to do, or should that be left mostly to parents, with the government’s role limited to ensuring that good information is made available to the parents as they make the choices for their families?
7.7 Writing Prompt – Bandura viewed observing others and modeling their behavior as key components in psychological change. Think of a time you observed someone else and modeled that person’s behavior. What are the results?
7.8 Writing Prompt – Is human personality analogous to a sophisticated computer program that processes information from the environment? Can our personalities be replicated or even replaced by a computer? Could your personality someday by “updated” to a supercomputer?
I CAN ATTACH THE CHAPTER 7 VIA. PICTURES IF NEED BE. THAT IS WHERE THE INFORMATION MUST COME FROM. THANK YOU.
