- Student Sample: The development of the smartphone has opened the gateway for its users to take high quality pictures. With the continued advancement of technology and access at our fingertips, taking professional-like images is easier than ever before. The high-resolution cameras and editing capabilities allow people to capture a stunning image within a matter of minutes (Week 6 Lesson 2). Apps and social media have completely changed how photos are shared. The Influencers of Instagram always present the perfect photo edited with filters. These photos always show the highlights of their life and rarely depict hardships. Photography that we learned about in the beginning of this course depicted moments that were not always happy but are still beautiful. The way current photography is used through social media is sometimes stale and lacks authenticity. An influencer can buy pre-made filters to adjust the lighting without having to use real artistic ability to create depth in an image. A positive change that has occurred within this advancement of technology is the ability to capture personal moments that are semi-professional. Growing up with film, you always hoped you ‘got the shot’ but it wasn’t always the case when the pictures developed. Now we can capture the precious moments of our families, animals, vacations, and other important moments with a touch of a button. We can instantly see these images and share them with anyone (artdaily.com, 2021). This can be both positive and negative with how the image is used. In the world today of COVID having access to these images can be very helpful to keeping ties to loved ones. When I worked in the NICU it was so hard for new parents to go through that experience with the visitor restrictions. The use of a smartphone let them easily share beautiful images of their babies with loved ones without having to wait. As technology advances, it is in how we use it that impacts it either positively or negatively.References:Week 6 Lesson 2Artdaily.com. (2021). https://artdaily.com/news/120672/How-Smartphones-h…
