There are significant inequalities when it comes to education across the US. What has often been called an “achievement gap” is more likely to be called an “opportunity gap” by education scholars as this term recognizes the role that unequal resources play in educational outcomes. As K-12 schools begin to plan for a full return to face-to-face learning in the fall, let’s reflect on some of the inequities that have happened during the pandemic.
After reading the article on e-learning/online learning, please answer the following questions:
1) What role does socioeconomic status play in a student’s success or struggles with online learning? What two specific e-learning challenges do you believe present the biggest threat to educational equity? Why?
2) What is one policy suggestion presented in chapter 8 that could be applied to the issues with e-learning discussed in the article? Please explain.
