Even if you are an expert on the topic, you will need to back up and support your ideas with information from credible sources.
3) Do preliminary research and write a tentative thesis statement (central idea).
4) Get my approval for your topic (due SU, November 7). Non-approved topics will receive a 15 point reduction.
5) Do more research. Use of 3 or more credible sources cited within your speech and in the reference section of your outline.
6) Outline your speech. Take a look at the outline document Download document to help you plan and prepare the speech.
7) Then craft a 4-5 minute extemporaneous speech.
The speech should be your own words, cite orally (at least 3 sources).
You should have an introduction, clearly defined main points and a conclusion.
Remember to deliver your content extemporaneously – Do no read from a script.
8) Optional** Prepare audio/visual aids. They are useful and can supplement and reinforce the message (graphs and charts, images, maps etc.). This is NOT required for this speech, but feel free to use them (sparingly and only to clarify a point).
9) Practice and Record.
Practice it a few times.
When you feel ready, record yourself delivering the speech as though it is a digital presentation. If you have forgotten how to record on canvas, look at the tutorial once more.
