Make a list of four or five roles that you consider to be traditional gender roles. Now think about your own life and answer the following questions:
- Do you find yourself more often practicing traditional gender roles or going against the traditional gender roles?
- Why do you think that you assume the gender roles that you do?
- Do you believe that you mostly learned these gender roles over the years, or do you believe that a larger part of gender roles has to do with biology?
- If you do not typically follow traditional gender roles, why do you think that is so?
- Consider the theoretical perspectives on gender (functionalism, conflict, and symbolic interaction). How have views of gender roles changed in present day? Have they changed? Are they taught differently? Are they important anymore?
