This assignment is designed as an exercise in differential diagnosis to develop your skill in assessing an actual clinical case. You will be assigned a case vignette that will provide clinical data from which a diagnostic formulation can be developed.
The task is to present a comprehensive diagnostic formulation which integrates etiology, theory, and research, as they apply to your specific case. An APA style, 5-7 pages term paper on a diagnosis of your choice based off of the vignette using DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. In addition, you should clearly identify your process of ruling-out other disorders as possible diagnoses, as you rule-in your final diagnosis. (Why is it this DX and not something else?)
The case formulation should include a brief description of:
(1) DSM-5 Diagnosis
(2) The external or environmental factors that might be relevant in the etiology and maintenance of the client’s presenting problems.
(3) The internal factors (biological, affective, cognitive) that might be relevant in the etiology and maintenance of the client’s problems.
(4) A theoretical orientation of your choosing needs to be discussed. The diagnosis then needs to be addressed from that theoretical point of view. Meaning: How would that theory define the symptoms and/or problem, onset, development, prognosis of symptoms? Finally, what would be the approach of treatment according to that theory?
Include 2 scholarly articles to explore your diagnosis and 2 scholarly articles to support therapy choice. (4 articles total). You will need to be concise in covering each of the above items. The paper must be typewritten, using APA format.
