Case Analysis CHD2220

One of the intriguing side effects of this course is applying course information to yourself, those

you know, or those individuals you see indirectly, such as individuals in the media and in real
life. For this assignment, you will do exactly that – you will select an infant or child that you
would like to analyze, and then state more about their development. The infant or child you
select can be someone you know or someone from a fictional setting (i.e., book, television show,
movie, YouTube, etc.). The age qualification for this assignment is that the individual must be 11
years old or younger. More details about this assignment are provided below.
Content
This assignment will be broken down into the following sections. Please make each section its
own paragraph. You are welcome to use sub-headers for organization, but these are not required.
1. State the infant or child you selected for this assignment (if it is someone you know
directly, please use a pseudonym for confidentiality) and discuss demographic
characteristics (i.e., age, gender, etc.), personality and behavior characteristics (provide
examples), and school information, if applicable (i.e., grade, academic achievement, etc.).
You don’t need to comment on all these aspects of the individual, but enough information
that provides an adequate description of the infant or child you selected for this
assignment.
2. Discuss this individual’s physical development. First, state the known or estimated height
and weight of this infant/child, and discuss if these measurements are consistent with the
average height and weight for infants/children at this age. Second, discuss their current
gross and fine motor development skills and identify if they are consistent with infants
and children at a similar age. Third, provide three recommendations for how this
individual could improve their physical development.
3. Discuss this individual’s cognitive development. First, discuss what stage this individual
is in according to Piaget, providing support for your response. Second, discuss how this
in individual is currently learning (or not learning) applying principles from Vygotsky’s
theory of development. Third, discuss how their education (i.e., raised by parents,
childcare, preschool, elementary school, etc.) impacts their development. Last, provide
three recommendations for how to improve this individual’s cognitive development.
4. Discuss this individual’s social-emotional development. For precision, comment on three
different concepts associated with social-emotional development. More specifically, state
the concept that you are relating to this individual and then provide an example to
connect this concept to the individual you are studying. Next, provide three
recommendations to help promote this individual’s social-emotional development.
5. Last, conclude your paper. First, provide a few sentences summarizing the main points of
your paper. Next, discuss how the information that you discussed in this course can assist
your own personal and/or professional development. Provide at least three ways that this
course can assist you, or three concepts that you can use to assist your professional
development.
