BELLOW IS MR. POTTS HISTORY

Effects of Alcohol Abuse

Parents have a lot of influence on child`s behaviors. Children usually look at their parents as role models hence the actions of the parent should always teach the children the right behaviors. Good parenting entails the parents teaching their children the best behaviors to enable them to lead a better life in the future. The actions of Mr. Pott, therefore, have a lot of influence on the behaviors of his children. As the father and husband in the family, he is the head of the family hence his family depends on his decisions. The actions of Mr. Pott, therefore, impact significantly on his family members. The medical condition Mr. Pott is having affects both his children and wife negatively. The deteriorating health of Mr. Pott forces his family especially his wife to stay close to him in hospital. Mrs. Pott, for instance, is very stressed by the continued behaviors of her husband. She is left with the responsibility of bringing up the children in the family.

Since Mr. Pott barely interacts nor spends time with his children, he does not help her wife to guide and advise them. The medical health conditions experienced by Mr. Pott is worsened by his alcohol drinking habits which the doctors have warned him against. The continued drinking of Mr. Pott affects his wife negatively as it results in the neglect of his duties as a parent as well as deteriorating his health. As such, Mrs. Pott is left with all the responsibilities of ensuring the children are taken care of as well as staying with her husband whenever he is admitted to a hospital. This stresses her a lot. The children of Mr. Pott are also affected significantly by the medical condition of their father. The children are stressed as evidenced by Cindy`s body mutilating behaviors as well as regular lashing at her parents both behaviorally and verbally.

Alcoholism leads to an individual being irresponsible since they spend most of their time taking it. This leads to the person failing to have time with their families. Alcohol abuse and alcoholism also lead to poor health of an individual. The medical conditions of Mr. Pott can, therefore, be associated with his alcohol drinking habits. As a result of the medical condition and alcoholism, Mrs. Pott is left with the responsibility of taking care of their children something which seems to stress her. Cindy, their 11-year-old daughter, suffers both emotionally and psychologically leading to his lashing and body mutilating behaviors. Sarah is left with no option but to sympathize with her father. All these effects are as a result of alcoholism and alcohol abuse of Mr. Pott.
