Law and Health Care Management
Introduction- The health care industry is continually changing and is one of the largest and most scrutinized industries in the United States. Leadership within this industry must be quick to adapt to these changes and need to continually develop their skills to remain effective. A key component of any health care manager’s skill set is a thorough understanding of the law. Throughout this course, we will be discussing the various aspects of law and how health care managers are impacted by it on a daily basis.
1. In your main post: Discuss how having an understanding of law and its impacts within the health care industry is beneficial to health care management professionals.
- Provide at least two examples of how law is applied within the health care field.
Include references in current APA style and format for all your sources.
2. Defensive Medicine
Introduction- Over the decades, legal implications and concerns have caused numerous health care providers to alter or limit their practices, and in some cases, even close their doors. Due to this precarious environment, the practice of defensive medicine has continued to increase in popularity as providers seek ways to reduce the likelihood of litigation and the associated risks that lead to higher insurance premiums.
In your second main post: Discuss what defensive medicine is, provide an example or two, and identify some of the key factors that often cause health care providers to practice it, including the avoidance of negligence and malpractice.
Identify and discuss the pros and cons of defensive medicine and whether you believe it is an ethical practice.
Discuss what position (for or against) you would take, from a health care management perspective, on the use of defensive medicine within an organization you led. Be sure to justify your reasoning
Include references in current APA style and format for all your sources
