Speech Topic Selection and Audience Analysis
for Speech 4: Persuasive Policy Speech (Motivated Sequence)
Purpose:
This discussion will allow you to present the topic for your next speech, get feedback from your audience (your classmates), and conduct an analysis of your audience.
After reading Chapter 5 in your textbook, “Audience Analysis,” you should have some idea of the kinds of information you need to know in order to refine your topic for your audience.
Persuasive Policy Speech Audience Analysis
Instructions:
In your initial response (Due by Thursday):
- Title your initial post using your name and topic, i.e. “John Smith: Raising the gasoline tax”
- Ask questions that will allow you to refine your topic to fit your audience (your classmates, not the group who will be present to hear your speech).
- At the very least consider asking some of these questions:
- Are you interested in the topic? Why/why not?
- What do you know about the topic?
- Is this a good/bad topic? Why?
- Do you support the topic? Why/why not?
