ASSIGNMENT BRIEF
Recently you have been appointed as Assistant to the Finance Director of a substantial UK listed company. Last year, it was discovered that one of the company’s key textile suppliers in South Africa, had discharged wastewater illegally for several years. This became an international issue soon and led to a series of consumer boycotts against company’s products in Europe and Asia. The operational and financial damages arising from this event were large enough to make CEO concerned about its future operations.
A renowned consulting group advised the CEO to release the first corporate social responsibility (CSR) report in the hope that this will help to regain company’s global reputation. But the CEO is not fully convinced yet. In fact, he considers the profit maximisation first as his bonus scheme is tied to company’s yearly earnings.
The Finance Director, who holds an MBA rather than an accounting qualification, has been asked to give a briefing on the CSR report at the upcoming board meeting. She has asked you to prepare a briefing report containing your thoughts.
Requirement:
1. Critically discuss the reasons that a company might give for engaging in the CSR reports (70 marks).
2. Select any company’s CSR report from an internet source, then explain briefly how this report is relevant to the above arguments that you outlined in the requirement 1 (30 marks)
Note: – For the requirement 2, you should provide the URL address (e.g. http://www.OOOO) of chosen CSR report.
– Make sure that your briefing report conforms strictly to the following format
and submission details.
1. Format Your briefing report should be no more than 1,000 words in length [using Arial, size 12 font, single line spacing]. Full academic referencing, using the Harvard method, should be applied, and this reference is excluded from the specified
word limit.
2. I found that some of the students are having difficulties in finding a suitable CSR report.
If you have the same problem, try the following links.
1. com/c/en/us/about/csr/csr-report.html#~stickynav=1″>https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/about/csr/csr-report…
2. com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/2019_CSR_final_web-1.pdf”>https://www.parsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04…
or,
3. https://corporate.target.com/corporate-responsibil…
These are some of the examples/suggestions, but you do NOT need to restrict your choice to only above 3. You can choose any CSR report from internet source.
* Please note that you are not going to be marked based on your choice of CSR report. Rather, you will marked based on your ability to explain the links between the Discussions in Requirement 1 and The real CSR report – i.e., How the discussed points in R1 are implemented in your chosen CSR report.
Hope this helps,
