Animation
Animation is another option for creating multimedia. Animation incorporates moving images with narration. Often, animations are created by individuals with advanced skills using software such as Adobe Flash or using HTML 5 technology. Easy-to-use and free applications for animation are starting to pop up. Sites such as Go!Animate help you create animated videos and Voki allows you to create an animated speaking avatar for your audio.
Images
Images can also help support learner comprehension of new concepts. There are many options for creating your own images using software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator or options for collecting images online to support your instruction. Sites such as Flickr allow you to create a photo album of images. Pinterest is a great site for saving illustrative images around the web in one place for viewing. Diagrams and concept maps can also help you to create illustrative images for your content. Software such as Microsoft Visio or Inspiration or free applications such as CmapTools and SmartDraw can help you create simple diagrams, flowcharts, and concept maps to help learners better comprehend key concepts. Wordle also provides a great way to illustrate text themes. Wordle allows you to upload text and create an image with words in different sizes to show frequency. This can be used to show key themes in content or even to analyze responses to survey questions. In addition to using these options to create course content for your online course, you can also let learners loose on these tools to create their own products.
