Go to the following website on World War I posters, where you’ll find a variety of government-issued posters related to such matters as military recruitment and fundraising. After reading the home page, click “view all.” From there, you can browse through the collection, or you can use the search bar to find specific posters (e.g., you can search for Navy or Women or anything else you’d like), or even search by country (e.g., Ireland). Your assignment is to select and download any three posters that you’d like and write a 500-word MLA-style paper in which you:
- Explain the background of the posters, as best you can [e.g., country of origins, which entity created it, year it was created, etc.]
- Explain their intended audience
- Analyze the central message of the posters. What message were they conveying, and what tactics were being used to convey this message? Were the creators of the poster trying to appeal to any particular emotions, fears, points of pride, or anxieties? Make sure you answer the above questions for all three posters. Also, please make sure you paste in images of each poster to your paper so the professor has a visual reference.
