What can we learn about Giotto from his impact on later artists? ( Masaccio, Michelangelo, Raphael )
Keep focussed on the question of why Giotto was important to later artists (both in terms of his pictorial skills and also in terms of the myth of Giotto starting with Dante in Purgatory 11 and going on through writers like Petrarch, Boccaccio, Alberti, and Vasari). The second thing to keep focussed on is what we can learn about Giotto’s art from how later artists responded to it. If you can keep the essay focussed in this way, it should be OK. But if it ends up being an essay mostly about those later artists, then it doesn’t really fall within the remit of the unit.
