- Record two 30 second excerpts on your phone, or with whatever device you have.
- In the first, try to pick a somewhat complex soundscape.
- In the second, try to describe what you hear (and if you have time, what’s different about the recording of it that you made).
- In your DAW of choice, line up the two audio files, and try to mix them so that your voice is perfectly intelligible throughout, but the background is clearly audible.
- Figure out how to edit the background track so that there is a 3 second ramp up in volume before your voice and a 3 second ramp down in volume after you’re done speaking.
- Turn in your audio with a brief, bulleted list of actions you did to clarify the mix and produce the final product.
